The Lovage Restaurant installed this large illuminated sign in the autumn of 2008 without obtaining the necessary planning permission from Southwark Council. When STRA contacted Southwark Council in November 2008 we discovered that the council was already aware of the situation had permitted the Lovage to apply for a retrospective application.

Following objections from several residents of the Circle and STRA the sign was deemed to be inappropriate for a Conservation Area and was removed by 12 March 2009.

STRA are aware that a new application will be sought for a more appropriate sign which complies with Conservation Area regulations.
